Inheritance can be a sensitive subject, especially when family members have very different ideas about money. But one woman has admitted feeling increasingly bitter toward her parents because she believes their retirement spending is eating into the inheritance she expected to receive one day.
The 34-year-old, who wrote anonymously about her situation, said her parents have been enjoying expensive holidays around the world, including trips to Thailand, New York and Costa Rica.
The woman wrote about it for the Daily Mail, with the headline reading, “My inheritance is being drunk through a straw in a coconut in the Caribbean! Am I selfish for resenting my boomer parents for burning through money that should be mine? “
At first, she was happy to see them enjoying retirement. But over time, her feelings changed.
“It is not a pleasant thing to admit, but the fact is their dream holidays are draining my inheritance,” she wrote for the Daily Mail
The woman explained that her parents had previously told her and her sibling that they would leave their remaining savings to them. That promise, she said, has made it difficult to watch them spend large amounts of money on holidays.
She also admits her own financial situation has made the issue even harder.
