Mom woke up from routine surgery to discover all four limbs had been amputated

Lucinda Mullins was scheduled to undergo routine surgery, but the ordeal ended up being far more dramatic than expected. When she woke up, she had lost all four limbs.

The incident took place in December 2023, when Mullins, from Kentucky, went to the hospital for routine kidney stone surgery. But as the operation began, she suffered septic shock, a life-threatening condition. In order to save her life, doctors were forced to amputate her legs, as well as her hands and forearms.

In an interview with the Daily Mail in 2024, however, she said the dramatic turn of events isn’t a “sad story.”

“This has a happy ending. I’m alive. I get to be with my children and my husband,” she said, according to VT.

“I was okay with it”

When she found out her limbs had been amputated, she wasn’t as upset as one might expect.

“Surprisingly, I wasn’t upset, I didn’t question it. I wasn’t angry,” she said.

“I know there will be hard times ahead, but just knowing I could see my kids again and that I had the support of my family, I think that gave me peace to be okay with it.

“I said, shoot it to me straight. I want to know it all. He explained what they had to do to save my life, that I was going to have surgery the next day to lose my legs.
