That extraordinary claim has resurfaced after author and Trump biographer Michael Wolff alleged that Melania has not slept at the White House once since her husband returned to the presidency in January 2025. Wolff says she has instead largely based herself in New York City, while maintaining a presence at major events when required. The claim has not been independently verified, however, and therefore should be treated as an allegation rather than established fact.
Nevertheless, evidence shows that Melania has taken a markedly different approach to her role during Donald Trump’s second term. Before his return to office, reports indicated that she did not intend to live at the White House full-time and would divide her time between New York and Palm Beach, Florida. By May 2025, reports suggested she had spent fewer than 14 days at the White House since Trump’s inauguration, with some sources describing even that estimate as generous.
Her relatively rare public appearances have continued to fuel speculation about just how much time she actually spends in Washington. Yet Melania has still appeared at a number of significant events, including official White House engagements, making the picture considerably more complicated than the idea that she has simply disappeared from presidential life
