A JPMorgan Chase executive has lost her job after a viral video showed her dumping the contents of a New York City trash can onto a sidewalk before taking the bin during the New York Knicks NBA championship parade.
The incident occurred on June 18 as thousands of fans gathered in Manhattan to celebrate the Knicks’ championship. Videos widely shared on social media appeared to show 40-year-old Angie Báez emptying a limited-edition blue-and-orange city trash can before walking away with it. A separate image later showed her riding the subway with the bin, further fueling online attention.
Following the video’s widespread circulation, Báez was identified as an executive director at JPMorgan Chase. The company later confirmed that she is no longer employed there but declined to comment further on the incident.
The New York City Department of Sanitation also addressed the matter, reminding the public that littering and removing city property are illegal. In a statement, the department criticized the behavior and noted that committing both acts on camera was “incredibly stupid.”
According to reports, Báez received a $75 fine for littering and a $100 fine for interfering with sanitation department operations.
The incident sparked extensive discussion online, with many criticizing the actions and debating the professional consequences. While some argued the punishment was severe, others said public officials and corporate employees are expected to uphold higher standards of conduct, particularly when their actions are widely shared on social media.
