A lip reader claims to have picked up a telling exchange between Melania and Donald Trump during King Charles and Queen Camilla’s recent state visit to the United States. It suggests the First Lady was keeping a close eye on her husband’s behavior.
Cameras caught the moment on the Truman Balcony, where the two couples had gathered to watch a military flyover. According to lip reader Nicola Hickling, speaking to The Mirror, Donald Trump appeared to say something that prompted an immediate response from his wife.
Melania Trump allegedly told him: “You’ve started now.”
Trump’s reply, as interpreted by Hickling: “What, bear with me?”
The First Lady’s response was short and to the point: “Act nice.”
She then added: “It’s a beautiful day,” to which Trump allegedly replied: “Yeah, I’m proud of all you’ve done.”
The exchange comes after Trump made headlines during the visit for repeatedly breaking royal protocol, including cutting in front of King Charles and Queen Camilla on several occasions. Rod Stewart was among those who weighed in publicly, appearing to praise the King for putting “that little ratbag in his place.”
Jill Biden’s ‘frosty’ inauguration ride
The story comes alongside fresh revelations from former First Lady Jill Biden, who has written about her own awkward encounter with Melania in her new memoir A View from the East Wing.
Biden recalled a tense limo ride to the inauguration ceremony, during which she and Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar’s husband John Bessler found themselves sharing the car with the incoming First Lady.
Bessler attempted small talk by asking about Barron Trump’s university plans and received a one-word answer, “NYU,” before Melania turned to point at clouds out the window.
Biden tried to keep conversation going by commenting on the military dogs in the cold weather, but that didn’t land either. She said she believed Melania’s frostiness stemmed from resentment over the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, for which she held Joe Biden personally responsible.
“I have compassion for her, having been subject to the same kind of search,” Biden wrote.
“I knew how distressing it was to have agents rummage through your underwear drawer.”
