Steve Harvey first saw Marjorie at a comedy club in the late 1980s. She walked in late, sat down in the front row, and he stopped his entire set just to tell her, “I don’t know who you are, but I’m gonna marry you one day.”
Life had other plans first. The two drifted apart, and Steve went on to marry twice more, both marriages ending in divorce. It wasn’t until 2005, after his second divorce was finalized, that he and Marjorie found their way back to each other.
“Marjorie changed the way I existed,” Steve told People Magazine. “I’d never been in a healthy adult relationship. I’d never been loyal, I’d never been fully respected.”
They married on June 25, 2007 — but their reunion came with unfair rumors that Marjorie had caused Steve’s previous marriage to fall apart. Steve wouldn’t stand for it.
“She didn’t steal nothing. And I’m tired of y’all talking about my girl, because my girl is one of the best women I’ve ever met,” he said on his radio show, Steve Harvey FM.
The criticism, he says, only made them stronger. Nineteen years later, Steve and Marjorie are still going strong. They have blended their families of seven children and built a foundation together to help young people in need.
