On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, a multi-agency operation announced by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) resulted in what has been reported as the largest seizure of fentanyl in U.S. history, with over 3 million pills and 11.5 kilos of fentanyl confiscated. Six high-level members of the Sinaloa Cartel, including its leader Alberto Salazar Amaya, were arrested. The operation highlighted the organization’s operations in Salem, Oregon, and drug distribution in Albuquerque, Phoenix, and Utah, with assets including millions in cash and vehicles also seized.
