John Cusack’s rare podcast appearance sparked plastic surgery speculation online.
John Cusack doesn’t do many interviews these days, so when he sat down with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, most people expected talk about his career.
Instead, the clips went viral for a completely different reason – his appearance.
“Who is that?” one commenter asked.
“Oh honey, his face,” another wrote.
Someone else guessed he’d had a facelift. “Getting old in Hollywood is not easy, but let’s hope this is a fresh one and it will settle.”
Plenty of fans pushed back on the suggestions, however.
“John is 60 years old! People still think he is in his 20s?” one wrote.
“These comments are horrid. Leave John alone. He’s a fantastic actor and a wonderful person,” another added.
A star who says Hollywood moved on first
Cusack first rose to fame in the 80s and 90s from coming-of-age films like Sixteen Candles, The Sure Thing, Better Off Dead, Stand by Me, and Say Anything.
In light of the speculation about his appearance, he has also previously addressed how getting older might affect his career.
“In the last few years, I haven’t been able to get projects financed. That could be a function of getting older. Or it could be a function of being cold. I haven’t really been hot for a long time,” he said in a 2020 interview with The Guardian.
His last American film credit came in 2025’s Fog of War, but he’s also been busy overseas, starring in the Chinese spy thriller Decoded in 2024.
