Should Adults Be Allowed to Order Kids’ Meals?

There’s something quietly brutal about realizing your craving has an age limit. You’re tired, overworked, maybe a little broken inside, and the only thing that sounds right is a beige, uncomplicated plate from the cartoon section of the menu. Then a stranger decides you’re too old for that kind of comfort, as if maturity requires mandatory microgreens. It’s not really about grilled cheese; it’s about being told that your needs are somehow inappropriate.

Restaurants do have their reasons: razor-thin margins, loss-leader kids’ meals, chaos when policies aren’t consistent. Fine. Charge more. Rename it “light bites.” Add an upcharge so the kitchen doesn’t revolt. But don’t act like wanting less food, cheaper food, or simpler food is embarrassing. Adulthood is already expensive and exhausting. If a six-dollar plate of nuggets gets someone through a bad day, maybe the grown-up move is to just let them order it.
