Princess Diana passed away in 1997 following a tragic car accident in Paris, leaving Prince William and Prince Harry without their mother — and a nation without its most beloved princess. Bonded together through that tragedy, the brothers grew close, leaning on each other through some of the hardest years of their lives.
According to royal historian Robert Lacey, that closeness came with a request from their mother. Citing psychic Simone Simmons, who used to consult Diana, Lacey revealed she once sat her young sons down and asked them for a promise.
“You must promise me that you will always be each other’s best friends,”
Diana reportedly told them. “And never let anyone come between you.”
Both boys promised her they would.
Decades later, that promise has become harder to keep. William and Harry are now believed to have gone years without speaking, their relationship strained since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal life in 2020. While King Charles has recently made efforts to rebuild his own bond with Harry, insiders say William remains far more guarded.
